There are many supplies and equipment that would be
very helpful to HRS in performing the services it provides to rabbits throughout San
Diego. Have you been wanting to donate but not sure what we need? Peruse the list below to
see if there's some way that you can contribute.
- Puppy exercise pens, folding panel-type, from 24 to
36 high, in new or very good condition
- Foster homes have a great need for 50-lb bags of Oxbow Bunny Basics T,
timothy pellets, available from KW Cages in Santee
- Gift Certificates for Hay from local hay vendors such as
Carters Hay (Encinitas and Lakeside) or R Hay & Grain (Escondido)
- Gift Certificates from Veterinarians who specialize in
rabbit medicine (see our website at http://www.sandiegorabbits.org/health/vetlist.html)
- Carpet samples (from carpet/tile stores) to provide rabbits
a soft place to rest in cages
-
Clean, new/used bath towels
- Clean, new/used pet carriers
- Gallons of white vinegar for shelter/foster home cleaning
- Rolls of paper towels for shelter/foster home cleaning
- Linoleum remnants for foster homes and office floor
protection (larger pieces, 6'x9' or similar)
In addition to these items, we also have a great need for the
following:
- HRS Sanctuary Homes: Permanent
homes are needed for "sanctuary" status rabbits. Rabbits in sanctuary care need
caretakers with rabbit experience. These rabbits may have challenging attitudes or
on-going medical concerns, making them difficult to adopt into permanent homes. HRS covers
most medical costs and supplies (cage, hay, etc.) to approved sanctuary homes
(home visit is required). You provide
the love and care, throughout the bunnies' lives. Contact HRS at 619-718-7777
(or email
hrs@sandiegorabbits.org) to apply as a sanctuary volunteer, and to give one of these homeless bunnies a loving place to live
throughout the remainder of their lives.
- Volunteers to Help Foster Homes: Some of
our larger foster homes need volunteers to pitch in a couple
times a month to help
with major cleaning tasks. The daily tasks of feeding, grooming, providing medical care,
and socializing does not give fosterers a lot of extra time to do the major cleaning that
is required (clean cages, litter boxes, floors, walls, etc.) every couple weeks or so.
Or, if you have good experience
working with rabbits but don't feel you're suited to
volunteering at a shelter, you might be able to help out at a
foster home instead. This can include assisting with daily
cleaning, litter box changes, grooming, exercising, and
socializing of foster rabbits.
If
you'd like to pitch-in and give a hand to one of these foster homes, please contact HRS at
619-718-7777 or email
hrs@sandiegorabbits.org. Adults
only, please.
