SDHRS Angels
The San Diego House Rabbit Society (SDHRS) Angels is a special group of SDHRS friends who have remembered SDHRS in their estate plan. These generous friends have made their gifts through bequests, retirement plans, or life insurance policies. Your estate plan gift will help build a strong heritage for San Diego HRS and ensure that we can continue our important rescue and educational work for generations to come.
SDHRS Angels' gifts to SDHRS can be made in two ways: bequests through wills and trusts, and through retirement plans and life insurance policies. Our federal identification number is 65-1262427. Please use our legal name, San Diego Companion Rabbit Society, Inc., and this ID number when making any charitable contributions to our organization. Your donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Wills and Trusts
Bequests of all sizes are welcome. You may make a bequest of cash or securities by designating a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or a particular asset. A bequest is simple to arrange in consultation with your legal advisor. It is a revocable arrangement, enabling you to make alterations as your circumstances change. Moreover, a bequest to SDHRS will qualify your estate for an estate tax deduction as allowable by law. Be sure to use our corporate name, San Diego Companion Rabbit Society.
Sample Will Provision: "I give (____ dollars), (_____ percent of the residue of my estate) or (a specific asset) to San Diego Companion Rabbit Society."

Life Insurance Policies
You may name SDHRS as the beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), or other retirement plan or your life insurance policy. Such a gift is easy to arrange with help from your tax advisors.
Many people cannot donate as much as they might like to SDHRS at this time, but through remembering the SDHRS in your estate plans, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you can contribute to the future of this organization.
Because SDHRS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, most gifts qualify for an income tax charitable deduction. As with all financial considerations, we encourage you to discuss potential tax advantages with your attorney, tax advisor, or financial consultant.

What can I do to ensure my rabbit will come to SDHRS if I were to pass away?
Naming SDHRS as your rabbit’s caretaker?
If you simply want to leave your rabbit to San Diego House Rabbit Society (SDHRS), then you will need to designate such in your will and name SDHRS as the beneficiary for whatever funds may be included as well. Our federal EIN is EIN: 65-1262427. The best contact information to provide is our main email address (hrs@sandiegorabbits.org). You may also include our mailing address. Please note, when designating SDHRS as your rabbit’s caretaker, we will be putting your rabbit up for adoption.
Surrender/relinquishment forms
We recommend filling out a surrender/relinquishment form on your rabbit in advance, and keeping those forms with your will. You can send us a copy of the forms in advance, too, noting that they are not for immediate relinquishment, but just in case the need arises in the future. When you send them to us in advance, we start a file on the rabbit, so should someone contact us later in the event of something happening to you, we have some information already in our system about them.
